Intern Profile: Anna Reardon
I interned for the feature film "No God, No Master" which was filmed in Milwaukee and surrounding areas during the summer of 2009, prior to the beginning of my sophomore year. This was a phenomenal, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to not only step into an extremely difficult and competitive field, but also gave me the courage to keep pursuing my dream of becoming an art director in the future.
My internship responsibilities were extremely varied, ranging from assisting the production designer, art director, set decorator, and construction department members. One day I would be addressing and stuffing thousands of pieces of mail to be used for a five minute scene and the next I would be frantically rushing to a set to help deliver a hero prop that was scheduled to be filmed in a few minutes. My favorite task was assisting in the shopping and dressing of several sets. It was a very surreal experience knowing that what I was doing would be seen by millions across the nation. I never knew what the next day would bring and because of that I loved every minute of it.
I was able to work alongside highly accomplished film industry professionals from L.A., Chicago, and Milwaukee, while gaining experience in their art department and in the filming of a feature movie. I learned everything from the script revision color order to what POCs, APOCs, ADs, Line Producers, and Swing Crew members actually do. One thing I quickly discovered is that I worked easily and efficiently under tight deadlines and was able to keep my composure and focus during high pressure situations. I also quickly learned how to keep my focus and professionalism when working alongside well known actors and managed to stop myself from becoming a crazed fan and instead remain a working professional.
I feel my internship has prepared me for my future career ambitions and has helped me develop as a professional by gaining connections into the feature film industry. It also helped me gain a wide perspective of where my dream of becoming an art director can someday take me. This internship experience is one I will definitely never forget for the rest of my life and I sincerely hope that the amazing education that you receive from St. Norbert will help you land your dream internship someday, too! |
