Intern Profile:Jenny Scherer

I interned at Alder Companies because I was looking to gain more experience in a true business setting.  This was a great opportunity to expand my knowledge of various aspects of the business world. My internship responsibilities included creating a social media presence for the company, expanding community relations, and regularly inputting needed data into spreadsheets which enabled me to gain valuable experience in several different areas of business: marketing, public relations, accounting and finance.

During this time I gained experience in public relations and learned more about dealing with customers and the surrounding community.  I learned the value of making a connection with customers by ensuring a product gets to them both as fast as possible and in the best possible condition. By using these public relations skills, I became more skilled at communicating thoughts and ideas both with management and area businesses we worked with throughout the community. I even began volunteering on my own time with the United Way Organization as a result of the positive experience I had working with them as an intern through the Alder Companies.

I also created a Facebook page for the Alder Companies to help complement their website as well as give them a greater online presence. It has become a valuable tool to reach out and connect to employees and for keeping the community informed of events sponsored by the Alder Companies and/or featuring their distributed Dean dairy products.

I feel my internship has prepared me for my future and has helped me develop as a professional by giving me hands-on experience in several different aspects of the business world. Having gained experience in marketing, public relations, accounting and finance, I feel that I am well-equipped with the skills necessary to find a job and have success in the business world upon graduation.
