Intern Profile: Matt Seidl
I interned at Merrill Lynch because it was a great opportunity to find
out more about a possible future profession. Not only did I increase my
knowledge of the financial services industry, but also gained a better
understanding of many different aspects of the financial world. This was a fantastic chance
to get my feet wet and take in as much as I could from the Financial Advisors.
My internship
responsibilities included many tasks which were given to me
by the Financial Advisor whom I reported to. I worked with organizing
client files, which made me more familiar with how Financial Advisors
coordinate different clients. In addition, I planned client events and this
helped make me realize how important those relationships with your clients
really are. My Financial Advisor was extremely generous in explaining and
teaching me about what it means to be successful. Many times he would put
together a “case study” and I would research and complete the task. Then we
would go over it together and this really is where my growth in understanding
and learning came about.
I feel my internship
has prepared me for my future and has helped me develop as a professional by
teaching me how to be confident in a business environment. I learned financial
advising is more than just tracking the stock and bond market. It is about
relationships and doing more than what is on the job description. I also feel
this internship opened my eyes to how much more I have to learn and so it has
kept me eager to attain as much as I can. There is no doubt that the knowledge
and confidence I gained at Merrill Lynch will help me in my future career.
