Intern Profile: Sara Smith

Uncertain about my future, I took an internship at Woodward Communications to see if the media field was a good fit for me.  I was looking to gain experience that would aid me in finding a job after graduation.  I decided to intern at Woodward in the summer of 2006 as I felt it had an excellent organizational culture.
 
As an intern, I was exposed to every aspect of radio; engineering, on-air, promotions, advertising sales, traffic, live remotes, concerts, etc.  I was able to participate in the events and meetings and learn a great deal about how stations function.  I gained a better understanding of the media field and gained experience that helped me get my job today.
 
I currently work at Woodward as an Account Executive.  My internship allowed the company to see my interest in not only the field of broadcast, but in Woodward as well.  My advice to students looking for an internship is to examine the area.  Find a place that you might be interested in and meet with people already in that company or field.
