As the Human Resources Intern with Northwestern Mutual
Financial Network, a company that helps others achieve financial security, my
main duties include recruiting students from St. Norbert
College and UW Green Bay for our internships and
full time employment opportunities. In order to inform students about a career
with Northwestern Mutual, I use Career Connections to search student's resumes.
I then contact them via phone or e-mail to set up an on-campus interview.
During the interview, I have the chance to introduce myself and become an
on-campus resource for this potential employee. As a result of these duties, I
have enhanced my communication and extemporaneous speaking skills.
Northwestern Mutual strives to be visible to all students on
college campuses and I help them achieve this goal. At St. Norbert College I attended the full time job and
internship fair with other Northwestern Mutual employees which allowed us to
talk face-to-face with students who were in search of career opportunities. In
March I helped plan a career information night at St. Norbert where students
could learn more about internship and full time opportunities available to them
as well as network with current employees and interns.
While working as the Human Resources Intern with
Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, I have learned how to effectively scan
resumes via online databases and conduct interviews. As a student who has been
interviewed for employment, I was interested to see what it was like when the
roles are reversed. I have learned what information employers look for when
scanning resumes and asking interview questions. This internship has helped me
gain valuable knowledge about a career in human resources.
