Intern Profile: Michelle VeNard
I decided to intern with Aurora Health Care because I wanted to test out different areas of communications. This was a great opportunity to explore the area of public relations since I had no prior experience with any type of public relations work. My internship responsibilities include: scanning and archiving newspaper articles, dubbing television shows, shadowing media interviews, and writing news releases. News releases are written for news reporters about various topics such as: a new physician, new technological advances, and community events that Aurora hosts or sponsors.
I also get to take on the role of an Aurora reporter. This is where I have the ability to go to Aurora BayCare Medical Center or an Aurora sponsored event to interview participants and Aurora caregivers for an internal news article. I also get to become a photographer and take pictures of the event. By allowing me to “cover” events, I am able to gain independence and show future employers that I can get things done on my own and complete tasks effectively. I feel my internship has prepared me for my future and has helped me develop as a professional by giving me experience in a field that I am very interested in and by giving me tasks that an employed professional does.
