English Major with Secondary Certification (10 courses plus a foreign language through 102): ENGL 150; 225 or 226; 235 or 236; 290; 305; 310 or 356; a major author course: 325, 334, or 339; 489; plus 2 ENGL electives* and a senior portfolio **.
Special Note: Students must fulfill their Area 5 General Education requirement by taking ENGL 150 and their Area 7 requirement by taking a foreign language through 102.
English Major with a Creative Writing emphasis (10 courses plus a foreign language through 102): ENGL 150; 225 or 226; 235 or 236; 305; a major author course: 325, 334, or 339; 307 or 308; 489; 425; plus 2 ENGL electives* and a senior portfolio **.
English Minor (6 courses): ENGL 150; 225 or 226; 235 or 236; 305; a major author course: 325, 334, or 339; plus 1 ENGL elective *.
English Teaching Minor (6 courses): ENGL 150; 290; 225 or 226 or 235 or 236; 305; 310 or 356; plus 1 ENGL elective *. Special Note: Students must fulfill their Area 5 General Education requirement by taking ENGL 150.
* HUMA 222, HUMA 262 and WOLT 325 may be taken as ENGL electives. Students may take more than one ENGL 389 (Special Topics), ENGL 489 (Advanced Seminar), or ENGL 491 (Tutorial in Advanced Creative Writing) course with the approval of the advisor and course instructor.
**All English majors are required to collect and submit a senior English portfolio (one essay or writing assignment from each ENGL course taken and a self-evaluative introductory essay) in order to fulfill graduation requirements (ENGL 499). During their coursework, English majors will store essays and writing assignments electronically under the supervision of their academic advisor(s). Senior portfolios (ENGL 499) are due at the conclusion of the English major's coursework at the College.
