English as a Second Language Institute (ESLI)
ESLI History and Mission
The ESL Institute was established in 1993 to support St. Norbert College's efforts to internationalize the campus and the curriculum.
The ESL Institute's broad mission isFirst, to prepare foreign students to successfully compete with their American peers in college classrooms. To do this, the ESLI provides professional language instruction in a multi-level, multi-skill language program, and cooperates closely with the St. Norbert College student support offices to provide services and cultural experiences which students need in order to achieve their long-term educational goals. Secondly, the ESL program offers adjunct programs to groups and professionals to assist them in achieving their educational and professional goals.
ESL Program Description
The ESL Institute offers a non-credit, multi-level, intensive English program for international students. Classes are held four hours daily in St. Norbert College classrooms. The program offers three levels of instruction with enrollment at the beginning of each semester and at mid-semester. Session length is sixteen weeks. Average class size is 9-11 students. Maximum class size is 14 students. Sessions begin in January, March, May, June, July, August, and October.
Requirements to Complete the ESL Program
The ESL Institute offers four program certificates:
1. Completion of the ESL program with recommendation to SNC degree program.
2. Completion of the ESL program.
3. Certificate of Participation
4. Certificate of registration
