International Studies Major:
I. Core Requirements:
All core requirements must be taken at St. Norbert College.
INTL 100 Introduction to International Studies (fulfills General Education Area 3)
INTL /POLI 160 Introduction to Comparative Politics
POLI 200 Research Methodology and Techniques (Prerequisite: SSCI 224)
POLI 350 International Relations
INTL 400 World Issues and Conflict Resolution
INTL 494 Internship (Abroad or local; with semester abroad or in Junior/Senior year)
II. Language and Area Studies:
Students must study in the geographical area where their language is spoken. Area studies electives must reflect the student's geographical specialty.
A. Language competency through 204
B. FREN/ GERM/ JAPN/ SPAN 375 (SPAN 385 option)
C. History elective in area/language of interest
D. Political Science elective in area/language of interest
III. Interdisciplinary Requirements
A. Economics: ECON 101 (Principles of Macroeconomics)
B. Religion/Ethics: RELS 350 Christianity and Cultural Diversity (fulfills General Education Area 1 Upper) or
PHIL 325 Ethics: International Issues (fulfills General Education Area 11)
C. Environmental Issues: one of the following (all fulfill General Education Area 11)
NSCI 301 Environmental Studies
ENVS 300 Environmental Science
BIOL 353 Biotechnology in a Global Society
GEOL 307 World Resources
NSCI 333 Issues in World Technology
D. GEOG 140 World Regional Geography or (GEOG 225 Social Geography if scheduling necessitates)
The total courses in these three areas = I - 6 courses, II - a minimum of 3 courses, III - 4 courses, totaling a minimum of 13 courses, with additional language courses as necessary.
IV. International Studies Majors will be encouraged to take a emphasis/sub-field of two courses in one of the following areas:
A. Economics: ECON 102, Microeconomics, and one from ECON 370, 375, 376, or 377.
ECON 370 Comparative Economic Systems
ECON 375 Growth, Development, and International Trade
ECON 376 International Trade
ECON 377 International Finance and Monetary Economics.
This emphasis is strongly encouraged for those majors considering graduate study in International Studies or Foreign Service.
B. Communications: COMM 330 Intercultural Communication (fulfills General Education Area 11) and one of:
COMM 384 Communication Technology and Social Change (fulfills General Education Area 11)
COMM 343 International Mass Communication (fulfills General Education Area 11)
C. Management:
BUAD 230 Foundations of Management
BUAD 261 Dimensions of International Business
ECON 102 Microeconomics (strongly recommended)
D. Environment: Two additional courses from III C, or options
ECON 350 Environmental Economics, and/or
BIOL 180 Biological Diversity (fulfills General Education Area 4)
E. Political Science:
POLI 353 U.S. Foreign Policy
POLI 355 International Organizations
POLI 362 North-South Relations (fulfills General Education Area 11)
POLI 365 European Governments
POLI 368 Politics and Government of Latin America
F. Human Rights:
PHIL 346 Philosophy of Human Rights and one of the following:
PHIL 325 Ethics: International Issues (if not taken to satisfy II. B)
RELS 332 Christian Ethics

G. Regional Studies: Two additional courses in the history and/or politics of the area/language of interest.
