Japanese Requirements

 

Individualized Major in Japanese Language: A student can pursue an Individualized Major in Japanese Language when faculty staffing is available and approval is given by the Academic Dean. The purpose of an Individualized Major is to provide an opportunity for students to study Japanese language and culture. The Japanese Language program is specially designed for students who wish to devote their attention to the mastery of the Japanese language. Those students who have already taken some Japanese language courses in high school or have studied the language in Japan must take a placement examination and obtain approval for course selection from the head of Japanese Language before applying for an Individualized Major. Japanese Academic Minor (4 courses above 300):
Four courses above 300 constitute a minor in Japanese.  These must include JAPN 305, 325, 375 and 390 at St. Norbert College.  JAPN 325 or JAPN 490 (or equivalent) at Sophia or Nihon University in Japan.

Japanese Area Studies Minor: Japanese Language through 204. Three courses from among the following:
JAPN 305 Intermediate Reading, Conversation, and Composition
JAPN 325 Special Topics (Sophia University)
HUMA 280 Japanese Culture and Society
HIST 362 Modern Japan
