Political Science Requirements

Political Science Major (11 courses): The political science major consists of ten political science courses including POLI 130, 160, 200, SSCI 224 ,one course in political thought (from among POLI 314, 316, 317 or PL 346), one course in United States politics (from among POLI 332, 335, 336 or 337), one course in international relations and comparative politics (from among POLI 350, 355, 365 or 368), one course in public policy/administration (from among POLI 231, 338, 346, or 348), and three political science electives numbered 200 or above. Students are advised to take POLI 130 & 160 as freshmen, SSCI 224 and POLI 200 as sophomores, and one course in each of the four content areas (political thought, United States politics, policy administration, and comparative politics) during the sophomore or junior years.

Political Science Teaching Major: The teaching major for secondary certification consists of the same courses required for the political science major.

Political Science Minor (6 courses): POLI 130, 200, and one course from each of the four areas: Political thought: POLI 314, 316, 317 or PHIL 346; United States politics: POLI 332, 335, 336, 337, 341, 342, 353; Comparative politics/international relations: POLI 260, 350, 355, 362, 365, 368; Public policy/administration: POLI 231, 338, 346 or 348. [SSCI 224 is a prerequisite for POLI 200.]

Comparative International Politics Minor (6 courses): POLI 160, 200, and 4 courses from POLI 260, 310, 350, 355, 362, 365, & 368.

United States Politics Minor (6 courses): POLI 130, 200, and four electives from the following: POLI 231, 332, 335, 336, 337, 338, 341, 342, 346, 348, 353.
