Rosemary Sands has been with St. Norbert College since 1993, where she has served in various capacities relating to International Education. She was named director of study abroad in June 2002.
Previously she was an adjunct and visiting instructor in Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures, teaching both Spanish and Italian, and she also served as director of Undergraduate International Education from 1996-1999. She earned her Doctorate in Modern Lanuages in Spanish and Italian at Middlebury College in 2013. Dr. Sands spent the spring 2011 semester conducting research for her doctoral dissertation in the National Historic Archives in Madrid. Her dissertation topic, La desamortización eclesiástica y su impacto sobre la Orden Premonstratense en la España del siglo XIX, deals with the history of the Norbertine Order in Spain.
Dr. Sands is the NAFSA consular liaison to the Italian Consulate in Chicago, serving an 11-state region. She is also on the Academic Advisory Board for Study Abroad Italy and on the Board of Directors for SQUOLA Center for Contemporary Italian Studies, Florence University of the Arts, Florence, Italy.
