In the 1630s and 40s in Cambrai, France, a small group of exiled English nuns lived, prayed, and wrote together under the direction of their beloved spiritual advisor, the English Benedictine mystic, Augustine Baker. This talk will explore some of the work produced by this community of women writers who, following their advisor's exhortations, wrote modern biographies "more for use in this present age" than the hagiographies of an earlier time.
