Advertising professionals heap honors on student art work
St. Norbert College art
majors took three golds and “Best of Show” at last week’s ADDY Awards, with a
record number of their submitted works recognized by local advertising and
communications professionals.
Seven of the nine entries
that the group submitted to the annual award program were recognized as among
the very best in creative advertising and design in northeast Wisconsin,
earning gold and silver ADDYs.
Digital illustration “Spoonful of Life,” by Sara Coursin ’12, took home the coveted Best of Show award, as well as a gold ADDY. Coursin who is studying both art and
biology, says she was extremely honored by the recognition. “I am currently at a
place in my life where I need to make one of three decisions: graduate school,
biology career or a hybrid career that mixes art and biology together. The ADDY
awards gave me a response on how my art is viewed and accepted by people. It
allowed me to step back from my biology major and consider including art into my
master plan,” says Coursin.
Brian Pirman (Art) is thrilled to see his students gain
recognition for doing quality work: “It is a great résumé-builder,” he says. “It
is also a tremendous reward for the student’s hard work, dedication, creativity
and passion.”
In fact, it is through the
generosity of the art discipline, and Pirman himself, that the students are able
to submit to the ADDYs. The last two years, Pirman has helped to defray their
entry fees through the sale of his original work and photography.
Pirman notes that the
recognition is especially exciting because it means that it is not only a student's peers or professors who recognize their work; it is also local and regional professionals
in the advertising industry.
Pirman himself took a Gold for his faculty portraits. Enjoy the art faculty as you have never seen them before on their Profiles page on the college website.
