Summer events heat up campus

It’s summer at St. Norbert, and a full slate of events promises to draw many to campus.

Knights on the Fox
The Knights on the Fox summer outdoor concert series is back this year, and the lineup is more varied and energetic than ever. This summer’s series will feature first-ever performances by ska, Finnish reggae and big band acts.

In its ninth season, Knights on the Fox delivers five weeks of free musical entertainment along the banks of the Fox River. People of all demographics come by land and water, as the docks at the Thompson Marina are always open.

Concertgoers are welcome to enjoy the entertainment with their own carry-ins or to purchase reasonably priced food and beverages on site. Acts ranging from local dinner theatre troupe Let Me Be Frank Productions to the crowd-pleasing Vic Ferrari have attracted as many as 1,600 people to campus for a single event.

This year’s series will take place Tuesday evenings from June 21 through July 19. Picnicking begins at 5 p.m., followed by entertainment from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The 2011 concert lineup features:

June 21
Boogie and the Yo-Yo’z (all the hits you know and love)

June 28
Alumni Night with the Jenny Thiel Group (vocal jazz)

July 5
Orpheus (ska)

July 12
Conga Se Menne (Finnish reggae)

July 19
Bay City Swing (big band)

More information on Knights on the Fox is available on the Knights on the Fox website.

Summer performing arts
Two of Broadway’s most beloved productions will headline the 50th anniversary season of St. Norbert College Music Theatre: “Man of La Mancha” and “The Phantom of the Opera.”

Broadway just released “The Phantom of the Opera,” and only a few colleges have been granted rights to perform it. Paul Mashl (Theatre Facilities) cites Music Theatre’s strong track record and ability to put on a great performance as principal factors in its early selection to stage the production.

Also playing on campus this summer: the Summer Music Camp Concert, the Summer 2011 Talent Showcase and Kids from Wisconsin.
