2011-12 New faculty members

St. Norbert College welcomes the following new faculty and staff members for the 2010-11 academic year:

Brandon Bauer
Brandon Bauer
St. Norbert College welcomes Brandon Bauer as assistant professor of art in new media and photography. Bauer is an award winning artist whose work has been exhibited and screened nationally and internationally. He received his B.F.A. in painting from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and his M.A. and M.F.A. in intermedia from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Brandon received a graduate student fellowship for the completion of his master of fine arts thesis project and exhibition titled “This Is What You Were Born For: Mapping Afghan History.” Bauer joins us from Lawrence University, where he was a lecturer in the department of art and art history. Prior to that he taught at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Bauer and his wife, Wendy, are expecting a new baby girl to join their family any day now.
Tomas Bogardus Tomas Bogardus
Tomas Bogardus joins St. Norbert College as a teaching fellow of philosophy. Bogardus received his B.S. in general biology, magna cum laude, from the University of California, San Diego, and his M.A. in philosophy of religion and ethics from Talbot School of Theology, Biola University. He recently completed his Ph.D. at the University of Texas with his dissertation titled “An Epistemological Approach to the Mind-Body Problem.” Bogardus is married to Tanja and they have a new daughter, Minna.
Mara Brecht Mara Brecht
Mara Brecht is welcomed to the faculty of St. Norbert College as an assistant professor of religious studies. Brecht received her B.A. in religion and history from Oberlin College, her master’s of theological studies from Harvard Divinity School, and her doctorate in theology from Fordham University. She enjoys running and exercising, playing soccer, reading contemporary fiction, walking her dog, spending time with her husband, Ben, baking and learning to upholster.
Eric Brekke Erik Brekke
We are pleased to welcome Erik Brekke to St. Norbert College as an assistant professor of physics. Brekke received his B.A. from Gustavus Adolphus College and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He joins us from Wheaton College, where he completed a two-year visiting position. Brekke and his wife, Susie, have two young daughters, Jannah and Emilia. His interests include biking, camping, reading, Frisbee and playing almost any game.
Shan Bryan-Hanson Shan Bryan-Hanson
St. Norbert College welcomes Shan Bryan-Hanson as curator of art galleries and collections of art. Bryan-Hanson received her B.A. from Anderson University and her master of fine arts from the University of Montana-Missoula. She joins us from Silver Lake College, where she was an assistant professor of art.
Kathryn Geimer-Chojnacki Kathryn Geimer-Chojnacki
Kathryn Geimer-Chojnacki joins the St. Norbert College community as adjunct instructor of education. Geimer-Chojnacki received her B.A.. from Mount Mary College and her M.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She has extensive classroom experience both teaching and evaluating students for special education, and supporting regular education and special education teachers in their roles in teaching a child with a disability. She has served on numerous local and state transition and curriculum committees and has helped to develop alternate assessments for students with disabilities, the Wisconsin Alternate Assessment (WAA) as well as the alternate ACCESS for English language learners. She joins us most recently from the Green Bay Area Public Schools, where she continues to work with transition of students (ages 18-21) at NWTC.
Carrie Kissman Carrie Kissman
Carrie Kissman, assistant professor of biology, is welcomed into our community in the natural science division. Kissman received her B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her Ph.D. from Michigan State University. She joins us from Miami University, where she most recently served as a visiting assistant professor.
Jamie Lynch Jamie Lynch
Jamie Lynch joins the St. Norbert College community as an assistant professor of sociology. Lynch received his B.S. from Western Washington University and his M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology from The Ohio State University.
Christopher Meidl Christopher Meidl
Christopher Meidl returns to St. Norbert College as an assistant professor of education. He has been a visiting assistant professor of education here since 2009. Meidl earned his Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction for early childhood education from Pennsylvania State University, his M.A. from the University of New Orleans, and his B.A.. from Saint John’s University in Minnesota.
Chris Morong Christopher Morong
Christopher Morong joins St. Norbert College as a visiting assistant professor of chemistry. Morong earned his Ph.D. and M.S. from the University of Chicago, and his B.S. from the Illinois Institute of Technology. Most recently, Morong served as an adjunct instructor of chemistry at the Dominican University.
Luis Navarro-Ayala Luis Navarro-Ayala
We welcome Luis Navarro-Ayala as a visiting instructor of modern languages and literatures. Navarro-Ayala earned his B.A. from the University of California-Davis and is in the process of receiving his Ph.D. in French and francophone studies from UCLA. Navarro-Ayala has extensive teaching experience at the high school and college levels in California, and is very excited to join our community at St. Norbert College.
Robert Osgood Robert Osgood
Bob Osgood joins the St. Norbert College community as chair of teacher education. Osgood received his B.A. from the University of Oregon, his M.Ed. from the University of Vermont, and his Ph.D. from The Claremont Graduate School. Most recently, Osgood was associate dean of academic affairs for teacher education as well as professor of education at Muskingum University.
Nicholas Padilla Nicholas Padilla '06
Nicholas Padilla returns to St. Norbert College as an adjunct instructor of geography. Padilla received his B.A. from St. Norbert College and his M.S. from Texas State University-San Marcos, and is working on his Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Keith Sherony Keith Sherony
St. Norbert College welcomes Keith Sherony as a visiting professor of economics. Sherony received his B.A. from Rosary College, his M.S. from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Sherony joins us from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where he has been part of the faculty since 1983.
Rob Trembinski Robert Trembinski
Rob Trembinski joined the St. Norbert College community as director of residential education and judicial affairs at the beginning of 2011.
Alexa Trumphy Alexa Trumphy
We welcome Alexa Trumphy to St. Norbert College as a visiting assistant professor of sociology. Trumphy received her B.A.., magna cum laude, from DePauw University, and her M.A. and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.
Kristin Vogel Kristin Vogel
We are delighted that Kristin Vogel became the new director of the Mulva Library at St. Norbert College effective July 1, 2011. Vogel recently served as librarian and associate professor at Saint Louis University. She has previously held positions at Illinois Wesleyan University and Alma College. She has an undergraduate degree in peace and global studies from Earlham College and a master’s degree from Indiana University’s School of Library and Information Science, with concentrations in academic libraries, technology, and reference and instruction.
James White James White
We are pleased to welcome James White as an adjunct assistant professor of sociology. White received his B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky.
Andrea Wochenske

Andrea Wochenske
Andrea Wochenske joins the St. Norbert College community as adjunct instructor of biology. Wochenske received her B.S. from the University of Kentucky and her D.C. from Palmer Chiropractic University. She is an active chiropractor in the area and most recently taught at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
