Family and Roommate Concerns
Family problems that you may want to discuss with a counselor can include everything from ongoing conflicts to concerns about the health of a family member. Grief and loss, divorce of parents or being the adult child of an alcoholic/addict are also major struggles for some college students.
Even going home for visits after establishing independence as an adult living away from home can be stressful. Some college students have the opposite experience—they are very close to their families and struggle with homesickness. Most college students experience some homesickness from time to time. If your symptoms of homesickness are pervasive, the Counseling Center can help by making suggestions of things you can do to alleviate some of these feelings.
One of the most important factors in battling homesickness and in making friends is to get involved on campus. There are may opportunities at St. Norbert College for involvement, including service and leadership programs.
Roommate conflicts also bring students to the Counseling Center for assistance. If you need guidance, please consider contacting your residence assistant, your hall director or the Counseling Center. We can help you sort through your concerns and brainstorm options for coping. We can also provide joint counseling for you and your roommate(s) if desired. |
