Professional Mentoring Program for Students of Color

logo

The Professional Mentoring Program is designed to provide students of color with an opportunity to have a personal connection with a staff, faculty, or administrator who can guide them through the college environment.  The main goal of the Professional Mentoring Program is to minimize or remove the potential isolation and loneliness that are often experienced by students of color by pairing them with a mentor who is willing and dedicated to develop a relationship and follow them through their undergraduate career at St. Norbert College.

Mentors and students (mentees) are paired according to student’s academic interest and mentor’s field. Once they meet, they develop a relationship by:

  • Meeting regularly (minimum of three times each semester) to review the student’s academic progress and to assist them with developing strategies for success. Discussion topics range from academic successes to student questions and concerns.
  • Attending activities (minimum of one each semester) sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Student Services.
  • Attending other social activities as desired, such as lunches, dinners, diversity celebrations, athletic events and lectures.
Mentees have the privilege of being introduced to faculty and staff members of the college with whom they might not otherwise have contact. Mentors also serve as a direct link and quick reference to registration and other processes of the college. Additionally, qualified mentors can serve as advisors to their mentees.
