Justin Dubas

Professional profile
Dr. Dubas has been at St. Norbert since 2005. He came directly from graduate school at the University of Notre Dame, where he completed his Ph.D. in the area of exchange rate economics.

His dissertation focused on exchange rate misalignment. Specifically, it explored the link between misalignment and the choice of exchange rate regime a country employs. This was extended to see what impact this has on economic growth.

His professional interests are wide ranging. They fall somewhere between economic development and international finance, where he explores important questions for developing countries. He is interested in issues in poverty and inequality, both between and within countries.

He also looks at global capital movements/international financial architecture in the context of fostering economic growth for developing countries. He has a particular interest in Latin American economies, and looks forward to pursuing research on this area in the future.

There are a variety of traditions in economics that he believes can give us insight into understanding economic problems and crafting solutions. He tries to draw from institutional, post-Keynesian and structuralist economics and incorporate these into more traditional forms of economic inquiry.

His personal interests are also diverse. He and his wife are avid travelers, having visited 20 countries (the most recent trip was to Costa Rica). He enjoys reading (usually a Kurt Vonnegut novel, Buddhist philosophy, or classic novels), is a music fan, a sports fan and enjoys visits to good art museums.
