About teacher education at St. Norbert College
Teacher education at St. Norbert College includes preparation in the natural sciences, mathematics, the humanities, foreign languages, fine arts and social sciences, as well as professional education. The teacher education program combines study in traditional academic subjects with theory courses, field experiences, methods courses and student teaching.

While our faculty takes pride in its ability to integrate theory with applied knowledge, St. Norbert College students gain additional practical knowledge through working directly with cooperating teachers in local public or parochial schools through numerous course activities, practicum experiences and student teaching.

education Why study teacher education?
The theme of teacher education is: "Actively engaged in becoming a teacher at the intersection of theory and practice."

By studying both professional education and traditional academic subjects, students grow intellectually. Commitment to Christian service and the process of learning how to fulfill that commitment through teaching helps young adults grow personally and morally. Through various teacher education programs, students prepare for teaching careers and become active and effective participants in community life.

Education mission/vision statement
At the intersection of theory and practice we challenge, lead, teach, and provide diverse experiences for preservice teachers as they become education professionals.

Philosophy
The faculty, students and staff in Teacher Education at St. Norbert College seek to engage in a wide range of academic challenges, influential leadership, exemplary and responsive teaching, and diverse experiences in diverse settings.

  • We believe that in an ever-changing world we must challenge ourselves and others to become more knowledgeable and better skilled.
  • We believe that it is Education Professionals who will lead the way to positive social change, peace and justice.
  • We believe that we must view our profession as a vocation.
  • We believe that we must teach others with the knowledge, dispositions, methods and materials that advocate for all learners.
  • We believe that diverse experiences in diverse settings inspire research and inform teaching.
  • We believe that diverse experiences encourage relationships between the campus and community, the college and schools, and among professors, administrators, teachers, preservice teachers, children and families.

The Teacher Education program at St. Norbert College proudly and uniquely models an intersection of theory and practice where we actively challenge, lead, teach and engage in diverse experiences to impact today and transform tomorrow.
