Sigma Tau Delta convention participants

2008, Sigma Tau Delta convention (Louisville, Kentucky)

Sixteen students from St. Norbert presented critical essays, creative works and chaired sessions: Kimberly Anderson, Meghan Engsberg, Christine Garten, Michael Gaspar, Amber Hartl, Kalin LeBrun, Stuart Ninabuck, Magdalynn O’Leary, Jenny Paul, Katie Pierre, Richard Scott, Alexandra Skibbie, Kristen Susienka, Olivia Traczyk, Paul Utterback and Rachel Waymel.

Paul Utter back received the E. James Nelson Junior scholarship and Professor Laurie MacDiarmid was recognized for five years of leadership with St. Norbert's Alpha Tau chapter.

2007, Sigma Tau Delta convention (Pittsburgh, Pa.)

Twelve students from St. Norbert presented critical essays, creative works and chaired sessions: Andy Caldie, Bridgette Flasch, Gina Hilbert, Stefanie Jochman, Rebecca Krus, Kalin LeBrun, Meredith Meier, Holly Morphew, Stu Ninabuck, Mike Thiel, Cassandra Voss and Zach Willis.

Sigma Tau Delta also gives out its annual awards at the convention for scholarships and convention awards. In 2007, St. Norbert came home with the most awards of any school.   • Scholarships Sigma Tau Delta Award (the most prestigious award the society gives): Stefanie Jochman
  • Regents Award for Midwest (given to graduating senior in Midwest region): Rebecca Krus
  • Junior Scholarship (given to one junior in Sigma Tau Delta): Amber Hartl
  • Convention Awards (there were over 780 presenters, so you can see how competitive these are):
  • Best convention critical essay: Stefanie Jochman—for new historical paper on Dickinson and the Civil War
  • Third Place for best convention critical essay: Andy Caldie—for essay on Ulysses and death
  • Best Essay on the Convention Theme (this is original work written specifically for the convention—the theme was confluence): Stefanie Jochman
  • Second Place for Short Fiction: Stu Ninabuck

2006, Sigma Tau Delta convention (Portland, Ore.)

The following students presented: Erin Grams, Amber Hartl, Jeremy Mitchell, Hilary Pamperin, Danielle Reindl and Abby Rush.

In addition, Erin Grams and Dr. John Pennington co-chaired and presented at a session on student/faculty collaboration (there were three other schools on the panel).

Stefanie Jochman won the Sigma Tau Delta Study Abroad Scholarship for her semester in England ($2,500). One or two scholarships are awarded yearly by the honor society.

2005, Sigma Tau Delta convention (Kansas City, Mo.)

The following students presented: Elizabeth Hermans, Jerusha Agen, Stefanie Jochman, Julie Ennenbach, Sarah Melendy, Jon Sergott, Rebecca Furlano, Sara David and Hilary Pamperin.

Stefanie Jochman was awarded “Best Essay on the Common Reader” for her paper, “Jamaica Kincaid’s Lucy and the Journey Towards a Genderist Self.”
