Sigma Tau Delta: the international English honor society
Sigma Tau Delta's central purpose is to confer distinction upon students of the English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate and professional studies. Sigma Tau Delta also recognizes the accomplishments of professional writers who have contributed to the fields of language and literature.
One of the largest members of the Association of College Honor Societies, Sigma Tau Delta has over 740 active chapters, more than 1,000 faculty sponsors and inducts approximately 8,500 members annually.

Why join?
We’re an English Honor Society here at St. Norbert College. As a group, we meet a few times a semester to talk about books with each other and with faculty, and to just have fun. We have an annual spaghetti dinner and an annual induction ceremony. Each year, members also get a chance to meet the English faculty to discuss upcoming classes. We also help create and distribute the two national Sigma Tau Delta journals per year as well as attend the National Conference. If you are looking for other reasons to join, there are many other
advantages of membership.
How to join
To join St. Norbert's Alpha Tau chapter of Sigma Tau Delta:
- You must have completed three English classes at St. Norbert College
- You must be an English major or minor
- You must have a 3.0 or better in those English classes
- And you must have a 3.0 or better GPA overall
Sigma Tau Delta convention
Every year, a number of English students attend and/or present papers at the annual Sigma Tau Delta Undergraduate Convention. It’s a fantastic way to meet English majors from around the country and globe and learn how to present your work in front of an audience. Besides, we have a great time!

Sigma Tau Delta publications
The Alpha Tau Chapter is also privileged to be home to Sigma Tau Delta’s literary journals, The Rectangle and The Sigma Tau Delta Review, as well as the national newsletter.
Learn more about journals housed at St. Norbert College. From 2000 to 2008, Professor John Pennington led the Alpha Tau Chapter, which has created and edited these publications with student editors. In 2008, Professor Karlyn Crowley will undertake the faculty leadership position. These journals are refereed journals, with jurors from across the country selecting those members to be published. So far, St. Norbert College has a stellar record of its members getting their critical and creative work accepted.

Convention highlights
Fifteen students were accepted to present their critical essays, poetry and creative writing at the 2008 National Sigma Tau Delta Convention. One of whom won an award as well.
