Research opportunities We encourage our students to gain professional experience above and beyond their coursework. We often obtain outside research grants or contracts to hire students for such activities as monitoring fish traps, conducting snorkel surveys for lampreys or assisting with long-term studies of northern lake ecosystems. Some students have been supported by our own scholarship programs, such as the Anselm Keefe Scholarship that permitted a recent student to spend a summer studying an endangered species of turtle. Other students have obtained internships at nearby nature centers or summer jobs with such agencies as the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Their activities have ranged from radio tracking bobcats and banding ducks to designing activities for school children on field trips. - |
