Professional Profile
Dawn received a Bachelor of Science degree in Therapeutic Recreation from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Shortly thereafter, she departed for Japan, residing there for twelve years, teaching English as a Foreign Language. Four years of teaching were spent as an instructor at Hirosaki Gakuin University in Aomori prefecture.
After returning to the U.S., Dawn began teaching at SNC's ESL Institute in 2007 while furthering her own education. She was awarded a Masters of Art degree in Education with a Teaching English as a Second Language concentration from Shenandoah University.
Other professional accomplishments include article contributions to the English Teacher’s Journal, an English teacher’s publication for educators in Japan and presentions on U.S. culture in a number of Japanese-community forums.
Her therapeutic recreation background plays a role in her relationships with her ESL students; she understands the importance of balancing life pursuits as a catalyst for success in academics and encourages her students to find that balance as they adjust to life in America and pursue acquisition of the English language.
