Professional Profile
Dawn received a Bachelor of Science degree in Therapeutic Recreation from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Shortly after completing those studies, she departed for Japan where she resided for twelve years.
During her time in Japan, Dawn taught English as a Foreign Language in a variety of settings. For four of those years she taught at Hirosaki Gakuin University in Aomori prefecture. She contributed to the English Teacher’s Journal, an English teacher’s publication in Japan, and gave presentations about U.S. culture and English language teaching during her time there as well.
Dawn returned to Green Bay in 2006 and began teaching at the ESL Institute in 2007. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Art degree in Education with a Teaching English as a Second Language concentration from Shenandoah University.
Since her recent transition from life in Japan to life in America, Dawn has explored many new recreational interests that Green Bay has to offer. When she first arrived, she volunteered for Aspiro’s recreation program, a Green Bay facility that offers day programs for individuals with cognitive disabilities. She has introduced Yosakoi Soran dance to a number of different groups. A dream since Dawn's childhood, she began taking ballet lessons just after she arrived in the States. She currently attends weekly practices and co-manages the Nia African Dance and Drum group.
Dawn began playing soccer for the first time in her life in spring of 2008 and plays weekly at the De Pere Sports Emporium. She has established and sings with the Joyful Noise music ensemble for Messiah Lutheran Church.
In the winter, Dawn enjoys skiing with her two children. In the summer, they like to go camping and swimming and would love to learn to sail someday! With a therapeutic recreation background, she knows the importance of balancing recreation with studies, work, and family and encourages her students to do the same. Study hard, play hard, get involved! There is no excuse for being bored.
