Features of the English as a Second Language program at St. Norbert College
We offer a variety of services to help students adjust to life at St. Norbert College. Here are some of the special things English as a Second Language (ESL) students can expect:

Airport arrival -- We meet all new students at the Green Bay Airport (GRB) as a free service.

Housing -- We work with our
Office of Residential Education and Housing to reserve a room for you in one of our St. Norbert College
college dormitories.

Welcome and orientation -- Our orientation and welcome includes a language placement test, review of polices, a tour of the campus, a visit to St. Norbert College
Health and Wellness Services and the St.Norbert College bookstore, and an introduction to campus life and culture.

Friendship family program -- We introduce students to American families in the community (not available to short-term students). Friendship families and students are introduced about 3 weeks after the start each fall and spring session. Friendship families provide students another link to American culture.

Conversation Partner -- We arrange students to have an American conversation partner (not available in the summer).

Tutors -- Available most afternoons, tutors are St. Norbert College students and retired teachers who volunteer to be tutors for ESL students. Students sign-up each week to meet with a tutor at a specific time afternoons or evenings.

Conditional admission -- We help students apply for admission to a degree program at St. Norbert College, no TOEFL score required for students who successfully complete the Advanced Level of the ESL program.

Provide use of college facilities -- including: computer labs, sports center, health center, music practice rooms and college activities.

Immigration issues -- We help students with passport and visa questions.

Campus Activities -- Check the
campus activities and calendar to see what's happening.
Trips and activities are coordinated by ESL staff and by the residence halls and the
Student Government Association (SGA). Events include shopping trips, parties, socials, discussions, movies and trips. ESL students are encouraged to join college clubs and organizations, attend campus lectures, sporting events, movies and plays. Some events may require a small fee.
