What our students say

Emily from China
Hongling I still remember the first time I came to the United States to pursue my American life.   I was full of curiosity about American culture…  In the ESL Institute teachers and other students are always kind to help me carefully; they are very easy to approach, and I love them very much.   In the classes the most interesting thing is to prepare a speech because I have to use many props, note cards, and practice them again and again.  In my classes funny things happen around us every day; for example, Christina, my writing teacher, always forgets the special class schedule on Wednesdays.  My classmates have to remind her every week.  We all laugh and wear smiles.  HongLing

HonglLing is from Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China.  She will complete the ESL program in May 2009 and then begin a full-time degree program in Business Administration in St. Norbert College.  Ling enjoys playing the Guzheng, a traditional Chinese stringed instrument.

Megumi from Japan

Studying in the ESL program at St. Norbert College gives me an opportunity to see a diversity of cultural relationships. We have been studying Dorm together while sharing plenty of homework. We need to write, read and speak English a lot. It is hard work, but at the same time, it is very fun to study together with friends.  While preparing for a presentation I learned that people kiss on the cheek when greetings each other in Mexico.  In Russia and Saudi Arabia, they kiss on the cheek three times.  I was also able to learn some Chinese thanks to the Chinese ESL students.  I am glad to be here and studying in this ESL program.  Megumi J.
Megumi is from Sapporo, Japan; she is an exchange student from Nihon University where she majors in International Relations.  Megumi enjoys playing piano and internet surfing.

Nozomi from Japan
Since I have been here, I had many awesome experiences such as trips to Madison, Chicago, shopping and skiing and snowboard.  Through the ESL program I have joyful memories.  For instance, we can study with tutors after classes are over, and all tutors are considerate and the teachers are keen on giving students English class.  Moreover, there are many activities that are held by St. Norbert College like movie shows, volunteer works, and festivals.  Nozomi
Nozomi  is  from Iwate, Japan.  She will return to Japan in March 2009 to continue her studies in International Relations at Nihon University, Mishima.  Nozomi enjoys playing volleyball, cooking, and playing with her Golden Retriever when she is home with her family.

Han from China

Han I am Han from the biggest, most populated country in the world.  I have been studying English for seven months in here already.  I am so glad that I can study English here because it can offer the best education in the USA.  My English ability has improved so fast here, and I have been to the most popular sports in the American ---FOOT BALL GAME.  I have a lot of fun when I’m studying  here.  Anyways St. Norbert is like my second home.  I like my life right here.  I'm lovin'it!!!!   Han X.

Han grew up in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan Province, China.  Han is currently in the advanced level of the ESL program; in August 2009 he will begin his degree program at St. Norbert College.  He plans to major in International Business.  Han enjoys playing basketball and soccer.

Ibrahim from Saudi Arabia
I was very surprised when I first arrived at St. Norbert College because of the variety of countries where the students are from.  Not only the students but also some of the ESL instructors were from foreign countries.  I think it is better to learn a language from someone who has been taught the same language previously.  Another thing is that I have noticed that Americans here are very friendly, and the campus is very energetic, plus, dormitories are much better than I had expected…

Ibrahim came to St. Norbert College from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in August 2008.  He completed the advanced level of the ESL program in and began a degree program at St. Norbert College in January 2009.

Peng fei from China

I feel my English ability improved a lot.  Studying in ESL builds a solid foundation for me to continue to study in College.  Now, I am armed with equipment of writing pengfei skills, reading skills, listening and speaking capacities.  The progress I made in ESL is like the footprints I left on the sand beach from the day I was born, to my childhood, until now… Pengfei.

Pengfei joined the ESL program in August 2008; he completed the program in December and is now an SNC degree student majoring in Business Administration.

Adil from Saudi Arabia

Adil When I arrived here last September, I was worried that the ESL won't be helpful for me because I've studied English in my country; but I was surprised how SNC's program improved my English skills and my knowledge about American culture in an unexpected way.  Also, I've experienced many places around the world visiting, studying, working and I can say without hesitation that SNC is a nice place to study and learn...

Adil earned a degree in hospital administration in Saudi Arabia.  After completing the ESL program, Adil will major in Graphic Design at St. Norbert College.  Adil enjoys volleyball, soccer, reading, travel and movies.

Fei from China
I am very happy to come back to St. Norbert College from my country, China.  All my teachers are very kind and friendly.  They taught me how to learn English and speak American English. With their help, my English is improved very quickly.  Also, there is another ESL program at St. Norbert College named “Friendship Family.”  I like the program very much.  I think it’s very good for students to learn American English and American culture. To me, I have created a good friendship between my friendship family and me. The family can help me solve many problems that I can’t solve.  Every week, I talk about many interesting things with my friendship family such as American people, Chinese food, and so on. It seems that I am also one member of the family. To sum up, the ESL teachers and staff at St. Norbert College give me many things that help me adjust to life and culture in America. Thank you St. Norbert College. Fei X.

Fei and his brother came to St. Norbert College in January 2008.  They now taking College classes majoring in business administration.  Fei enjoys playing basketball and tavelling.

Ryoma from Japan
Group I have had an exciting time at SNC because I made many friends. There are many ethnicities in the ESL class such as Korean, Chinese, Mexican, Saudi Arabian, and so on. If you can get a nice roommate and many friends like me, it is easy for you to improve English skills. Also you can go on a trip or shopping with friends. I will never forget to meet many important and valuable fiends.   Ryoma I.

Ryoma is studying International Relations at Nihon University, Mishima, Japan.  Ryoma enjoys baseball, movies and travel.

Aziz from Saudi Arabia
When I arrived to De Pere, I was shocked by the weather and the small quiet city.  I saw the streets, stores, groceries, and even the buildings were simple.  I could not understand why people send their children to this city.  But after I joined the ESL institute in St. Norbert College, I was surprised by everything in it.  The high quality community, education and activities forced me to change my thoughts.  I became one of the De Pere residents and I really like it.  Regardless if it has the coldest winter I have been through, but society of St. Norbert College make me warm.   Aziz
Abdulaziz completed the ESL program and is now a full-time student majoring in Business Administration at St. Norbert College.

Ala from Saudi Arabia
When I decided to come to the United States to study English as a Second Language at St. Norbert College, I felt that was a big adventure since I was surrounded by love from my family.  Yet when I arrived, everyone welcomed me with a smile on their face, and I felt like I came to my home.  The thing that I like here is how people are helpful and friendly.  The thing which I dislike is the cold weather.  Coming to SNC is a good place which has great teachers, free tutors, and enthusiastic trips and events. The best thing here is the teaching ways which focus on your weak points and improvement individually.  Ala A.
