Jacob K. Javits Fellowships Program

This program provides fellowships to students of superior academic ability—selected on the basis of demonstrated achievement, financial need and exceptional promise—to undertake study at the doctoral and Master of Fine Arts level in selected fields of arts, humanities and social sciences. A board establishes the general policies for the program, selects the fields in which fellowships are to be awarded and appoints distinguished panels to select fellows.


  • Must be entering graduate school in the coming academic year
  • Be studying for a Ph.D. or MFA degree at an American university in the arts, humanities or social sciences
  • You must be a U.S. citizen or national or a permanent resident
  • Need to have taken the GRE
