Professional profile I am a licensed clinical social worker with 10 years of experience working with a variety of mental health issues. I began my career working in an inpatient psychiatric unit. From there, I worked in the community with clients who had chronic mental health issues. Most recently, I was a lead therapist with emotionally disturbed youth. I was responsible for the supervision of line therapists and interns. We worked to manage the clients' care in a collaborative model.
In addition to my clinical experiences, I was an adjunct faculty member at Marian College (Now Marian University) where I taught Interpersonal Skills. This position helped me realize how much I enjoyed working with college students. As a member of the advisory committee for the social work program, I had the opportunity to get to know many students, interview them and assess their readiness for entrance into the social work major.
I like to take a solution focused approach when working with students which means trying to help them develop coping strategies or behavior changes that will help them now and in the future. My areas of interest include developmental or learning disabilities, social skills, stress and anxiety, mood disorders, relationships, women's issues, body image, and crisis interventions.
