Past walking programs

Step It Up 4: Hawaiian Knights

This walking tour took us through the islands of Maui, Lanai, Oahu, Hawaii, Molokai, and Kauai. We had a total of 235 participants on 47 teams. The program participants were comprised of 41% students, 55% staff members and .05% faculty members.

When surveyed, 33% of students and 45% of staff participants stated that the walking program helped them to increase their daily walking and activity levels. Participants also experienced an improved sense of well being (24% of students and 36% of staff). The walking program helped 14% of students and 20% of staff participants to cope with stress.

Our Hawaiian themed luncheon was well attended and participants were treated to great “Hawaiian” food, music and dancers. The team "Walk A-Latte" was voted as having the best team name and the "Hawaiian Honeys" team was voted as having the best team button.

Positive feedback from the program:
“Changed my workout routine and gave me a goal—really fueled my efforts”
"This program helped me lose weight, lower blood pressure, and incorporate exercise into my life year round.”
"Nicely done-thank you!”
"It kick starts my spring!”

Step It Up 3: Australian Knights

This walking tour took participants “Down Under” on a “walkabout” through Brisbane, Grafton, Taree, Sydney, Canberra, Wadonga/Albury, Seymour and Melbourne. We started off in Brisbane and finished our journey in Melbourne. Each team walked a collective 2,570,000 steps with each team member averaging a total of 514,000 steps or 10,490 steps each day.

Participants received “passports” filled with fun information about the places we were walking through along with  virtual postcards, “What’s Up Down Under?" trivia and gentle e-mail  encouragement from the “Walking Whisperer”. Creative team names included Dewey Divas Down Under, Roundabout Roos, Aussie Lassies and Beauty and the Geeks.

Positive feedback from the program:
“Thanks for all your work! The lunch was delicious and it was a great motivator to be on a team and walk with friends.”
“Thank you for all your hard work in organizing this event. I know everyone really looks forward to this and yes, it is good for us too!!”

Step It Up 2: European Knights

On our journey through Europe we visited London, Paris, Dijon, Zurich, Innsbruck, Venice, Florence and ended in Rome at the Vatican City. The program had 48 teams. We had outstanding participation from dining services who had the highest number of participants at 41 people. Facilities, housekeeping and the Kress Inn had 24 participants. Sensenbrenner Hall had the highest number of students participating with 21 participants. All of these team members completed the 6-week journey.

Step It Up: Life’s a Beach

This was our first “virtual” walking tour. It started out from the St. Norbert College campus and continued it’s 7-week stride down to Gulf Shores of Alabama. We sent out virtual postcards for each of our stops along the way and encouraged participants to come in Health and Wellness Services to check out the map that showed the walking progress of each team. We ended our walking tour with an outdoor “beach” celebration on the Campus Center patio. Everyone looked forward to Step it Up 2.
