Honors Program FAQ
I am interested in the Honors Program but would like to wait a semester to apply. Is that possible?
If you have been invited to apply to the Honors Program, it is best to apply right away, since the number of openings in the program is limited. Late entry to the program is allowed on a space-available basis, but this opportunity is primarily intended for students whose high school record was not good enough to justify immediate entry into the program.
How many extra courses are required in the Honors Program?
The Honors Program does not require extra courses. Rather, the seven courses taken in the program are part of the same general education program that all students must complete.
Can honors students take advantage of other opportunities available at St. Norbert College, such as foreign study?
The honors program is flexible enough so that students can participate in other extracurricular and academic programs, including foreign study. In fact, honors students tend to be more actively involved in these activities than regular students.
Will my grades suffer if I enroll in the Honors Program?
The standards for grading in honors courses are the same as in regular courses. As a result, honors courses tend to have a large proportion of high grades. In fact, many honors students find that they do better in their honors courses than they do in their regular classes.
I plan to get credit for some advanced placement courses I took in high school. Can I be in the Honors Program, even if I intend to graduate early?
Although the Honors Program is designed as a four-year course of study, it is flexible enough to be completed within three years. Students awarded credit for four or more courses through AP, CLEP, retroactive foreign language or mathematics credit are automatically given a reduction of one honors course requirement.
