Dean of the College and Academic Vice President — Full Time
Duties:
St. Norbert College, one of the nation's top Catholic liberal arts institutions, invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College and Academic Vice President. The College seeks a person who is a consultative leader, a rigorous intellectual inquirer, a passionate teacher/scholar, a perceptive judge of character and situations, and an effective facilitator of the advancement of others.

St. Norbert College was founded in 1898 by the Norbertine order of Catholic priests. It has a rich history, robust financial health and genuine momentum. The College recently dedicated a new, $18-million library and a state-of-the art "all-suite" residence hall. It has just broken ground on a stadium and athletic complex and is at the schematic design phase for a renovated and expanded Science Building. The fall class brought record enrollment-excellent students lured by rigorous academic programs, an outstanding faculty that specializes in student research opportunities, and a beautiful campus.

St. Norbert draws its distinctive character and energy from being the only institution of higher learning rooted in three master traditions: Norbertine (with its particular emphasis on the ideal of communio, or "deep" community), Catholic, and liberal arts. The College's next Dean will use his or her talents to build on those traditions in St. Norbert's continuing quest for excellence. She or he will be building as well on the extensive, seven-year record of achievement of the current Dean, who has announced that this is his final year in this position. The College seeks a Dean who will embrace the best of traditional higher education while promoting innovation.

St. Norbert College recently was classified as a national liberal arts college by the Carnegie Foundation, and it is nationally ranked by U.S. News and World Report. The Princeton Review has called St. Norbert College one of "The Best in the Midwest." The College is located in De Pere, Wisconsin (founded in 1673), a small, vibrant community of 20,000 situated within metropolitan Green Bay (population 300,000) and within the 18-county "NEW North" region (population 1.2 million). Near the entrance to scenic Door County, the picturesque, tree-lined St. Norbert campus is set on the banks of the Fox River.

As the chief academic officer of the College, the Dean reports directly to the President, serves on the President's Cabinet, and oversees Academic Affairs, which includes three divisions (Humanities and Fine Arts, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences), International Education and various interdivisional programs. The Dean also oversees such areas as athletics, the library and information technology. She or he is responsible for the quality and integrity of all academic programs and services. Working with the Faculty Personnel Committee, the Dean makes recommendations to the President in matters of tenure and promotion. She or he chairs the Dean's Council, composed of all the direct reports to the Dean, and sits with the Sabbatical Committee.

Experience:
Candidates should have an earned doctorate or appropriate terminal degree and a record of excellence in teaching and scholarship. The successful candidate will have held a tenured position for at least 10 years and will be expected to meet St. Norbert College's qualifications for full professor with tenure. She or he ideally will have substantive management experience in an academic environment, including evaluation of faculty for tenure and promotion. The strongest candidates will also have experience reviewing and developing curriculum, using assessment to improve student learning, and recruiting and developing faculty.

How To Apply:
Applications should include a letter explaining the match between the qualities and qualifications of the candidate and the mission and traditions of the College, a current resume, and the names, addresses, e-mails and phone numbers of four references. The letter should outline how the candidate proposes to help the College improve all aspects of its diversity. Candidates are also invited to provide a Statement of Administrative Philosophy if they are so inclined. All are encouraged to consult the College Web site at www.snc.edu. Nominations of others are welcome, and they should include the name, position, and address of the nominee.

St. Norbert College is an Equal Opportunity Employer and offers an outstanding benefits package including health and life insurance, retirement plan and tuition waiver. We welcome candidates from all faith traditions who can contribute to the College's mission (http://www.snc.edu/mission).

For best consideration, applications and nominations should be submitted by December 7, 2009. Applications may be submitted via e-mail to jamie.mcguire@snc.edu or by regular mail to:
