Twitter
St. Norbert College uses Twitter as a way to communicate brief messages about campus happenings from various departments. We in the I.T. department tweet information about the status of our network and servers. If we know of an interruption in service, or if we're working on a server that's unavailable, we'll tweet about it. These tweets are of course available on the
Twitter web site, as well as the
I.T. home page.
Our Office of Communications maintains a list of all of the
St. Norbert College Twitter accounts with links that allow you to follow us.
sncTweet
sncTweet is an original program that we use to automatically tweet certain headlines from various locations. For example, the program monitors our press releases database (maintained by the
Office of Communications) as well as our athletics press releases database (maintained by our
Athletics office). When updates are detected, the headlines are automatically tweeted. When used in conjunction with Twitter's device settings, you can have these press releases and sports results sent as a text message to your cell phone.
sncTweet is written in Perl and uses the Twitter API for posting statuses directly to the Twitter server. For more information, please contact
Scott Crevier, our web developer.
