How To Print

To print using a library computer or college-owned computer, simply use the File > Print function.

If you would like to print using your laptop or any personally-owned device, visit print.snc.edu and follow the prompts. You can use this service from anywhere (i.e. on campus, home, coffee shop, etc). We strongly recommend that you try using our Follow Me print queue.

Printing Cost

The cost for black and white printing is 4¢ per page, while color is 12¢ per page. All charges are applied to your student account. Students receive a credit of $14.00 for printing each semester. Any credit remaining at the end of the semester is automatically zeroed out and then reset for the following semester.

Multi-function printers (MFPs) can be used to make copies at the same cost as printing. You can also use MFPs to scan documents; there is no cost for scanning as these documents are emailed to you.

Bring Your Own Printer?

Students do not need to bring a printer to campus, as the $14.00 allotment (per semester) along with printers spread throughout campus (including four residence halls) is plenty for most students. If you do wish to use your own printer in a residence hall, be aware that our network security restrictions prevent two devices from talking to each other over wifi, therefore a wifi printer will not work. However, a printer that connects to your laptop via USB cable will work just fine.

Faculty/Staff

To print using a college-owned computer, simply use the File > Print function. You can print to any printer on our network (this only works while on campus). If a printer that you'd like to use is not available on your computer, please contact the Service Desk and we'll set it up for you.

If you would like to print using a personally-owned computer, visit print.snc.edu and follow the prompts. You can use this service from anywhere (i.e. on campus, home, coffee shop, etc).

The cost for black and white printing is 4¢ per page, while color is 12¢ per page. All charges are applied to your department printing account.

Multi-function printers (MFPs) can be used to make copies at the same cost as printing. You can also use MFPs to scan documents; there is no cost for scanning as these documents are emailed to you. All multi-function printers on campus are provided by a lease contract with Marco. All support requests should be directed at the ITS Service Desk, where we will first see if it's an issue that we can handle quickly and in-house (toner replacement, paper jam, etc). If we determine that a Marco technician needs to be called, we'll submit a ticket to them. They will then respond in person within 4 business hours (Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm).

MCW

Students and staff of the Medical College of Wisconsin (as well as conference attendees with an account) can print to any printer on our network, from anywhere.

Visit the print.snc.edu web site and follow the prompts. You can use this service from anywhere (i.e. on campus, home, coffee shop, etc). Here is a quick list of steps:

  1. Login using your six letter login id.
  2. On the "Web Print" page, click "Submit a Job".
  3. Select printer options
    1. Select the printer according to your needs
    2. Enter number of copies
    3. Upload the file you want to print
  4. On the final page above, click "Upload and Complete" to send to the print queue.
  5. Wait a few seconds, then click the "Jobs Pending Release" tab on the left.
  6. Click "print" next to the print job, then click the appropriate printer name.

If you wish to print in color, be sure to select a "color" option when selecting the printer in step #3-1 above, and also select a printer in step #6 whose name ends with the word "color". Printers whose name does not include the word "color" are only capable of printing in black and white.

Note: If you select "color" in step #3-1 above, and you select a black and white printer in step 6, the print system will catch that after the document prints and only charge you at the black and white rate.

Follow Me

Follow Me Printing allows you to submit a print job into the queue, and then release that print job on any printer on campus. This is a perfect solution for printing sensitive documents. To use this on any college-owned computer, simply choose "Follow Me Printer" for the printer. Then there are two ways to select the printer and release the job:

  • Papercut Print ReleaseVisit www.snc.edu/go/printrelease on your phone, and follow the prompts to release the print job on any printer. When you use the "Add to Home Screen" option on iOS or Android, you can then launch the site by clicking the icon, just like a traditional app.
  • If the printer is a multifunction printer with a card swipe, swipe your ID card and follow the prompts on the screen.

For faculty and staff, the "Follow Me Printer" print queue is installed on all Windows computers automatically, and on Mac computers by request. If your college-owned computer does not have "Follow Me Printer", please contact the ITS Service Desk and we'll install it for you.

Students can also use this print queue in the same way by selecting the "Follow Me Printer" when using Google Cloud Print (accessed from print.snc.edu).

Any documents sent to the Follow Me Printer queue and not released within 24 hours will automatically be deleted.

Example scenario:

You can work on a paper in your dorm room in the evening. When you're done, print that document to the Follow Me Printer. Then in the morning, while on your way to class, stop at any printer near your classroom and release the job.

You can even send multiple documents to this queue. Then release each one at different locations on campus as you go to each class.
