Mission and Vision
The mission of Journey-Men is simple, yet far reaching:
Bring men together for brotherhood, character development and commitment to the greater good as they explore their lives as men. The vision of J-Men is rooted in the Norbertine tradition of action and contemplation. J-Men seeks to provide campus men with a variety of social and formative experiences in small and large group settings. J-Men seeks to impact male students in three ways:
- Provide a sense of belonging.
- Help shape authentic male identity and good character.
- For some men, provide intentional formative experiences that result in a clear sense of self in service to the wider community.
The vision of Journey-Men is informed by the following:
Journey
- Life is a continual process of personal growth and development.
- College students seek belonging while shaping their identity as they transition from their to families to increased independence.
- Identity is shaped in part by social narratives.
- As a college rooted in the Catholic Norbertine tradition, our Christian tradition informs our conscience for the journey.
Men
- Being male shapes life and identity development in a gender unique way.
- Young college males seek to become “men.”
- Young college males benefit from interaction with older men, especially mentors, in reflecting upon their lives as men.
- To be a man is to be for others, especially those in need.
