David Stevens has extensive experience in the practice of reconciliation in Northern Ireland. He is currently the Leader of the Corrymeela Community (an ecumenical community of Protestants and Catholics in Northern Ireland, founded in 1965). He has served as general secretary of the Irish Council of Churches (1992-2003). Mr. Stevens is a founding member of the Northern Ireland Community Relations Council and was a member of the government’s Standing Advisory Commission on Human Rights (1988-1992). In 2004, he published a book based on his remarkable experiences in one of the most socially and religiously divided regions of the world: The Land of Unlikeness: Explorations into Reconciliation.
