A graduate of Loyola University in California, Professor Seigfried is a specialist in American Philosophy, Pragmatism, and Feminist Theory. 

The recipient of a Catholic liberal arts education, she brings her personal educational experience to her research on Jane Addams, connecting character, feminism, pragmatism, education, politics and history.  Professor Seigfried is a recognized expert in Jane Addams scholarship that affirms the connections between Addams and pragmatism and her progressive positions on the crucial areas of immigration, democratization, globalization, and gender issues. Professor Seigfried will discuss Ms. Addams in light of the Killeen theme this year on women and liberal arts education.

She was awarded the Herbert W. Schneider Award, 2009 ‘For distinguished contribution to the understanding and development of American Philosophy’ by the Society for the Advancement of American Philosophy and was John Dewey Lecturer for 2007 and 1998. 

Her recent publications include Feminist Interpretations of John Dewey. Ed., Re-Reading the Canon series, University Park: Pennsylvania State University Press, 2002, and "A Pragmatist Response to Death:  Jane Addams on the Permanent and the Transient," JSP, 21:2(2007): 133-141.
