“An Evening of Norbertine Sacred Music”

Oct. 12, 2010
6:30 p.m. Sacred Music
Old St. Joe’s Church

Performed by the St. Norbert College Music Department

This event is co-sponsored by the Killeen Chair, Center for Norbertine Studies and office of mission and heritage.

For almost nine centuries, Norbertines have contributed to almost all aspects of Christian civilization and culture. The area of musical composition and performance is no exception, as is evident by a long and little known list of Norbertine composers from the medieval period through the Baroque and down to our own time. Norbertines have of course composed music to accompany liturgical celebrations within the abbeys, but also to serve the wider Church. Besides the liturgical contexts, Norbertines have also composed more popular music for recreational purposes. This evening performance by the St. Norbert College Music Department will highlight a variety of both sacred and secular musical pieces, including liturgical chant, instrumental, choral, individual and ensemble pieces.
