Introducing a World of Wonder

Through programs that explore different languages and cultures, we help instill in children a sense of excitement and appreciation for the world around them. 

Globetrotter Friday Program

We are pleased to announce a foreign language and culture program called Globetrotter Friday - just for middle schoolers!


Globetrotter Friday is a language enrichment program for children ages 11-14 at the St. Norbert College campus. The Friday educational program consists of a full day workshop taught by experienced educators and SNC students. Class size is limited to 30 students.

Globetrotter Friday uses the language curriculum of our tried and true Pre-Collegiate Language Institute (PCLI) school-year program and mixes in more culture activities to take middle schoolers on a virtual trip around the world.

The workshop is Friday, April 12 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The cost of the day's events is $20 per child and lunch is included. Chaperones are free. The program is in the Mulva Library on the SNC campus.

Passports to the World Summer Programming

Passports to the World is a language and culture program especially for children ages 5-11. 

Taught on campus by St. Norbert College students, it combines a basic language curriculum with cultural activities to explore various areas of the world.

Classes are Monday through Thursday mornings from 8 a.m.-12 Noon.

Choose either session:

  • Session I: July 8-18, 2013 
  • Session II: July 22-Aug. 1, 2013

All programs are on the SNC campus. Classes will be limited to a maximum of 10 and must have a minimum of 6 children sign up in order to run. The deadline to sign up is June 25, 2013. You can register online.

Topics include: 

Los deportes y Español 
Have fun playing sports that are popular in Latin American countries such as baseball, soccer and basketball while learning Spanish vocabulary.
 

Asian Art & Culture
Learn how to say hello in Chinese and Japanese, how to eat with chopsticks, write your name in calligraphy, create origami and get a taste of Asian food.


German Castles and (Green) Knights 
Hear stories about medieval Germany’s castles, princesses and knights while learning German expressions. Build a castle, design your own coat of arms and explore fairy tales!


French Conversations around the World 
Bon voyage! Take a virtual trip to the many countries around the world that speak French - Canada, French Polynesia, Senegal, Switzerland, and of course, France. Create your own travel album and learn basic French vocabulary along the way!
 

The cost is $125 per student. The fee includes instruction, all course materials, t-shirt and certificate of completion.

After-School Spanish, French, Mandarin Chinese & Italian Language Courses
The Pre-Collegiate Children’s Language Institute teaches language classes in Spanish, French, German, Mandarin Chinese and Italian, to first-through sixth-graders during the school year.

Classes are held at several area elementary schools, and are taught by St. Norbert College students majoring in foreign language and/or education.

The program is based on a nationally recognized elementary language curriculum. It engages children through art, music, games and other fun activities. There are no tests, quizzes or mandatory homework assignments.
