GIFTS/DONATIONS POLICY
The
primary goal in the acceptance of gifts is to acquire those materials most
relevant to institutional needs and that fit within the framework of the
Library’s Collection Development Policy. This includes materials providing
curricular support, meeting basic research needs of students and faculty, and
maintaining collections of depth in our primary subject areas.
Gifts intended for the
library collection are accepted with the understanding that the library retains
the right to handle or dispose of gift material in the best interest of the
institution. Faculty assistance will be sought, when necessary, in determining
the appropriateness of material. Items not added to the collection may be
returned to the donor if requested at the time of donation or offered to
institutions whose collections are more appropriate. Materials may be
automatically discarded if in poor physical condition, are outdated, or require
equipment not supported by the Library or College. A letter of acknowledgement
will be sent to all donors, after a donation has been received by the Library.
Donor information may be forwarded to the Office of
Institutional Advancement. Donors wishing to remain anonymous should inform the
Library prior to donation.
The Library can create a special gift/donation
bookplate for use on donations that are retained. Please notify the Library if
you would like your name on a bookplate(s).
