Co-curricular involvement is an important aspect of your college life. There are life-long friendships to be made, leadership skills to develop, and people to be served. These are the skills that add quality and balance to your life not only now, but in life after college.
The first month or two of college life can be a little heady. That's why we've developed an in depth sequence of events to help get you comfortable and well on your way to four successful years at St. Norbert College culminating with a bachelor's degree, a host of unforgettable memories, and a plan for the future.
So if you're a new student, and you are exploring how to find your niche, throw yourself into the following events with gusto:
- Attend the two day
Summer Orientation, and stay overnight. Yes, this is where you get the nuts and bolts out of the way (advising, registering, applying, testing, etc.), but it's also an ideal opportunity to start getting to know some of your future classmates.
- Get to know your FYE mentor and don't be afraid to ask questions. The FYE mentors are upperclassmen who have been where you are now. They know the ropes and applied for the position, knowing they could help you!
- Attend as many events as possible during the
Week of Welcome. WOW gives you many networking opportunities and informal means to just get connected. Comedy, music, informational meetings, picnics ... there are lots of opportunities to just relax and get to know people.
- Sign up for
Emerging Leaders and start preparing yourself for future campus leadership roles.
Or perhaps it's October and you were being shy in those first few weeks. It's not too late.
- Get involved in a campus wide service event like
Make A Difference Day. Helping someone else will help you relax and get to know others volunteering their time.
- Complete the
online interest survey (to the right) and we will forward your information to organizations and departments that can contact you with opportunities to do just what you want to do!
- Get involved on a
college committee. This is a great way to meet other people, find out about on campus internship opportunities, and help to organize campus wide events.
- Contact us ... by phone (x4023), email (
lse@snc.edu) or a visit (Campus Center, Suite 330). We want to help get you connected because we strongly feel, backed by many first year retention studies, that students who are involved are students who succeed!
