2005-06 Accomplishments
}The 2005-06 M3C Fellows at SNC had a busy year! Hours of service, training, learning, and fun filled in some of their time between classes and homework. The M3C Fellows participated in local, national, and international service and movements. They developed their leadership skills. They dedicated evenings, weekends, and weeks to helping others, learned about themselves and others, and developed lasting friendships and relationships. They made a difference!
Their adventure began in August with two days of program orientation and training on campus, followed by their first opportunities to earn service hours.
In September, the M3C Fellows began their involvement in leadership and service at SNC. During the Emerging Leaders retreat, they boosted their leadership skills and developed a plan for their M3C experience. Saturdays and Wednesday evenings were often spent pounding nails at a SNC Habitat for Humanity build in Green Bay.
The month of October was another busy month for the M3C Fellows. They spent the weekend of Make a Difference Day at Camp Helen Brachman in Almond, WI, where they helped with camp maintenance and had fun relaxing with each other. They also began tutoring at Jefferson Elementary School in Green Bay on a regular basis.
During November, the M3C Fellows executed the Emerging Leader group projects that they had worked hard on all semester. The fellows helped plan and participated in events to raise poverty awareness, such as the Oxfam Hunger Banquet and the Habitat for Humanity Shack-a-thon.
December brought an end to the M3C Fellows’ first semester of tutoring and volunteering at SNC. Before they had to buckle down and study for their finals, they wrapped and distributed books to all the students in the HOSTS (Helping Our Students To Succeed) after-school program at Jefferson Elementary.
During their semester break in January, the M3C Fellows put in some long hours in both their hometowns and far away from home. Several of the fellows served at local community organizations, while others participated in the SNC TRIPS program and served people in other communities. By the time February rolled around, the M3C Fellows were back to class and back to tutoring. Some of the Fellows began working with students at Danz Elementary, a bi-lingual school in Green Bay. They also began to get more involved with a variety of campus organizations, thanks to the leadership skills they developed during the Emerging Leaders Program.
During March, the Fellows participated in a community service event with the students they tutored at Jefferson. As a group, they went to Grancare Nursing Center to read to the residents. Pretty soon it was time for Spring Break for the Fellows. While some of them went home for some well-deserved relaxation, others decided to spend their vacation helping others as part of the Spring T.R.I.P.S. program.
April was the final ‘big’ month for the M3C Fellows. They worked hard to bring 80 students from the after-school programs at Jefferson Elementary to the St. Norbert College campus for an afternoon of exploration and fun. The Fellows acted as tour guides to the students, showing them everything from the residence halls to the cafeteria and answering all their questions about college life!
May came quickly for the M3C Fellows, with most of them finishing up their last few hours during the final week of classes. They had a wonderful dinner with President Hynes to celebrate their successful completion of the program and reflect on all their accomplishments. The Fellows also had a lot to show for their work outside of the M3C Fellows program, as some of them were elected to officer positions in campus organizations and others were awarded internships in departments across campus.
Together, the 2005-06 SNC M3C Fellows completed over 3500 hours of service. Their worked impacted people and communities from Green Bay to Jackson, Mississippi to New York City. They left a lasting impression on all those touched by their work, especially those students they tutored each week.
