Mathematics student activities

Math Club
The Sigma Nu Delta mathematics club allows students who enjoy mathematics to congregate and organize social, academic and community service activities. Dr. Poss is the adviser. >>Math Club

Honor Society
The St. Norbert College chapter of the Pi Mu Epsilon mathematics honor society works with the Math Club to organize a conference each November. Students give mathematical presentations at this and other regional and national conferences. For information on the 2007 Pi Mu Epsilon conference hosted by SNC, click here.  Dr. Poss is the adviser. >>National PME Mathematics Honor Society

Teaching assistants
Some majors are hired as teaching assistants. These assistants do not teach classes. They work approximately nine hours per week, and their main task is to hold office hours to help students in the lower level mathematics courses. Dr. Poss is the supervisor.

Internships
Some students participate in summer internships, and some of these internships continue during the school year. >>Career Services Guide to Internships

Research
Besides giving talks at conferences, some students have been able to obtain summer research positions. Some of the upper level mathematics courses require students to submit articles for publication in the St. Norbert College Journal of Undergraduate Mathematics. Dr. Frohliger is the editor.

Math competitions
Some students enter mathematics competitions such as the Putnam Exam and modeling contests. St. Norbert teams have finished in the top 10 every year since 2004, and placed fifth in 2006.
