Mathematics department news
This year marks several changes in the mathematics faculty. Both
Bonnie Berken and
Rick Poss are beginning phased retirement. In both cases, it means teaching full time in the fall semesters and not at all in the spring.
Dr. Younis Zaidan joins us from UW – Milwaukee as a visiting assistant professor.
Dr. John Frohliger has finished his five-year term as Associate Dean for the Natural Sciences. He is enjoying a well-deserved sabbatical this semester and will resume full-time teaching in the spring.
The 2007 St. Norbert College Pi Mu Epsilon Regional Undergraduate Mathematics Conference was a great success! The attendance was 213 – breaking the old record of 158. The student presentations were great!
This year's winners of the Nicholas Nirschl Scholarship were
Elizabeth Colletti,
Mark Krines, and
Sarah Schultz, all current seniors. As you may recall, these scholarships are awarded to math or CS majors who contribute to the program in ways that go beyond classroom performance. The awards are funded by donations from alumni. These same three students also shared the Brenda Roebke Memorial Scholarship.
Math majors: During the 2006-2007 school year, the following students graduated with a mathematics major:
