Professional profile
Bernadette Berken has had many articles published in professional publications about teaching science and mathematics using multicultural resources. Her book of mathematical activities, "Culture Counts: People, Patterns, and Pi, A Gallery of Artifacts and Activities" (translated into Hmong and Spanish) is used by K-12 Northeast Wisconsin educators to teach math from a cultural viewpoint and broaden the appeal of mathematics.
She has developed instructional television programming to teach cultural mathematics, reviewed mathematical books and co-authored mathematical study guides for high school and college students. She has given many presentations at national and regional conferences, developed and led science and mathematics workshops for K-12 educators as well as summer camps for students.
She helped produce a program for television programming which is aired through CESA 7 ILS (Interactive Learning Services). It includes work of teachers who have participated in the workshops associated with this project and grant.
Berken has been with St. Norbert College since 1982. |
