Frequently Asked Questions
How many students will be accepted?
Over the course of an academic year, a total of 50 professionals will be admitted to the MBA program.
Are there other entry points, besides fall and spring semester?
Depending on enrollment limits, there may be opportunities to enroll during summer sessions or at mid-semester. We make every effort to accommodate the needs of our admitted students with regard to entry points.
How many years of business experience are required?
We prefer a minimum of three years of business experience. However, fit in the MBA program is assessed on multiple criteria, and with the dean’s approval, exceptions may be made.
Do I need to have an undergraduate degree in business administration?
No. However, all students are required to have successfully completed an undergraduate statistics course (typically engineering, business or social sciences statistics) before entry into the MBA program. Also, students who have not successfully completed undergraduate accounting and finance coursework are required to enroll in BUAD 500, Fundamentals of Accounting and Finance. Waivers and substitutions may be granted by the dean when appropriate.
When and where are classes held?
Classes are usually held on campus weekday evenings, Monday through Thursday. Because classroom discussion is an essential component of the MBA program’s learning experience, online classes are generally not offered.
What if I need to miss a class?
Classroom attendance policies are set at the discretion of faculty; there is not a general attendance policy that applies broadly to the program. It is recommended that any schedule conflicts be discussed with faculty prior to undertaking a course.
How many total credits are required to complete the MBA program?
Thirty-seven credits are required for graduation, regardless of concentration. Thirty-nine credits will be will earned by students not waived from core course BUAD 500, Fundamentals of Accounting and Finance. (Waivers may only be extended by the dean, based on review of undergraduate transcripts.)
How long will the MBA program take to complete?
Each student sets his or her own pace for the program, based on personal and professional schedules. Credit requirements can be completed in two years if a steadfast pace is pursued and more than one course is taken in most eight-week sessions. We recommend that completion of the program take no longer than five years, barring special circumstances.
Will courses from another MBA program transfer in? If so, how many?
Courses from other MBA programs may be considered upon individual review. Except under special circumstances, up to 12 credits can transfer.
Who reviews and approves transferable courses? What will be the process?
At the request of the applicant, the dean will review an applicant’s official transcript(s) and determine if courses are transferable. Final approval will be at the dean’s discretion.
