Here's a description of some of the things we do!

Wisconsin State Music Convention
One of the main activities of MENC is attending the Wisconsin State Music Convention at the end of October in Madison. Here, students have the opportunity to learn about current innovations and methods in music education through:

• attending sessions/presentations regarding music education
• participating in hands-on workshops
• attending performances, including State Honors Bands/Choirs
• making professional contacts

Music Classroom Adoptions
MENC extends into the community with a music classroom adoption project. During the 2005-06 school year, MENC made a $775 donation to a music classroom in a local school district. This donation was also matched by a business in the Fox Valley resulting in a total donation of $1500! During the 2003-04 school year, MENC collaborated with the Chicago TRIPS group and adopted a music classroom in a low-income school district. Last year, MENC adopted the music classroom at Tank Elementary, one of several elementary schools in the Green Bay Area Public School District.

Silent Auction
MENC will hold its third annual silent auction at the St. Norbert College Music Department Festival of Christmas reception on December 5. MENC members put together gift baskets of donated items from families of St. Norbert music students, music faculty, alumni and area businesses to be auctioned during the reception. The profits of this fundraiser go to the music classroom adoption project.

Service
The ongoing service activity of MENC is providing ushers for St. Norbert College Music Department events held in Walter Theatre. As students who value the significance of fine arts at St. Norbert College, MENC members volunteer to usher to help create an atmosphere that is both professional and friendly in order to contribute to an enjoyable experience for the audience. Additional service opportunities arise depending on current group projects.

Guest Speakers
MENC brings in 1-2 guest speakers a year. Recent guest presentations have included:

• Finale and Compositional Techniques
• Copy Right Concerns for Music Educators
• Public Relations and Marketing for the Music Teacher
• Good Vocal Hygiene
• Instrumental Repair
• Theater Management (highlighting sound and lights)

Bake Sales
MENC has bake sales after all St. Norbert College Choir and Band concerts. MENC members are assigned to supply baked goods 1-2 times a semester. The bake sales are a very successful continuous fundraiser for MENC.

Car Wash
MENC has an annual fall car wash on Family Weekend at Seroogy’s.
