History of the Knight Owl
The Knight Owl was made possible by the Journey-Men, a group of male
students who with the help of many others recorded an estimated 1,700
hours of work renovating this room from the fall of 2003 to the spring
of 2006. All the wood in the renovation project is recycled from
discarded bunk beds, barn beams, office base boards and farm wagon
boards.
The room was created with two purposes in mind. The first purpose was
to provide a meeting place for programming of special interest to men.
The second was to provide a space for all students to socialize late
weekend nights and provide a way for campus groups to fund raise while
staffing the Knight Owl. Both of these objectives were successfully met.
With the financial assistance of the Student Government Association,
Journey-Men has managed and maintained the Knight Owl to include al
business operations, weekly cleaning, repairs and upgrades. The
creation, management and maintenance of the Knight Owl has served as a
constant reminder of Journey-Men’s members, and hopefully others, what
a positive impact a group of men can make and that ultimately being a
man includes being life giving service to the common good.
The Journey Men extend thanks to all individuals who have helped make this dream a reality. |
