Marie Gerschutz-Bell is a Senior Legislative Specialist for Catholic Relief
Services (CRS), representing the agency before the U.S. Congress. In this
presentation, contributing to St. Norbert’s annual theme on Civility, she will
address the importance of bipartisan support for the common good, along with
the means by which that kind of support might be achieved.
Gerschutz-Bell
has been a social worker with migrant families in North Carolina and served as
Migration Policy Director for the Jesuit Conference USA for five years. Selected
a young leader in immigration by the German Marshall Fund, she served for
two years as a fellow in its Transatlantic Forum on Migration and Integration. She
also served as fellow at the Woodstock Theological Center at Georgetown
University, where she contributed to and co-edited “And You Welcomed Me:
Migration and Catholic Social Teaching.” Gerschutz-Bell has worked with Casa
Alianza in San Jose, Costa Rica; the International Federation of Red Cross/Red
Crescent Societies in Geneva; and on Capitol Hill with Rep. Tony P. Hall
(ret.). She has published articles in the Blueprint for Social Justice, Epikea, Vivre ensemble
and other magazines and journals.
She holds an MA in International Peace and Conflict Resolution from American
University and a BA in political science and Spanish from the University of
Dayton.
