Closing Reflection - Judy Brown '08

We've had time to reflect on the challenge that has been laid before us.  We've been challenged to care for others and ourselves in the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of life through action.  Sometimes, however, we must accompany our actions with words.  I believe that words are powerful and that we must speak out for what is good and right and just. Singer/songwriter Jewel Kilcher encourages us to live a "life uncommon."  She writes, “Lend your voices only to sounds of freedom ~ no longer lend your strength to that which you wish to be free from ~ fill your lives with love and bravery and you will lead a life uncommon."  Living out the challenge that is laid out in the gospel of Matthew encourages us to lead a life uncommon.  It takes bravery, courage, strength, determination and love to go about our days living the challenge of the gospel in both word and action.

Justin Krueger and I would like to share Jewel's music with you this morning.  My hope is that you find encouragement and a sense of strength from the lyrics.  May we all fill our lives with love and bravery and lead a life uncommon.
