Spiritual Connections Program
In response to the religious diversity of our campus, the Campus Ministry team has created a Spiritual Connections Program that seeks to connect students with folks on our campus who representative various spiritual traditions. The faculty and staff that have volunteered to be part of this program are available to students who are looking for information about ways to observe their tradition in the Green Bay area, or who simply want to talk to someone who shares their spiritual grounding. Please feel free to contact any person listed below for more information about your home tradition. A lifelong Episcopalian, I grew up in a village near London that had churches of four different denominations that existed in wonderful harmony with one another. Before moving to the United States 20 years ago, my family spent six years in Jordan. There we met many Arab Christians, and found our Muslim friends were very interested in discussing the common ground between our faith and theirs. Here in Wisconsin, I am a member of All Saints, Appleton, where I worship with my husband and four children, all now of college age and finding their own paths. At church, I have served as director of Christian education and as a member of the marketing committee. Right now, I teach Sunday School to a multi-age class – it’s like a one-room schoolhouse, the big ones help the little ones, and I love it! |

I was born in southeastern Pennsylvania and was baptized and raised in the Presbyterian tradition. Having lived in De Pere and worked at St. Norbert for 32 years I feel that I have an understanding and appreciation for the Catholic tradition but I am also quite involved with the First United Presbyterian Church of De Pere. I teach fifth and sixth grade Sunday school, coordinate the monthly meal at the New Community Shelter and am a member of the Outreach Ministry.

I was baptized in the Methodist church, but was not really raised in the church. When I started my own family, I became involved in the church, and since moving to De Pere, have been an active member of First United Presbyterian Church of De Pere.

I was raised in the Roman Catholic tradition and still hold that tradition in high regard. But during my undergraduate studies (while writing my honors thesis on quantum physics) I discovered Buddhism, especially early Mahayana and Theravada forms of Buddhism. Today, I focus on the earliest scriptures of the Buddhist tradition--the Pali Canon--both as a scholar and as a practitioner. I seek a "naturalistic" kind of religious experience that is consistent with modern science.

I taught theology for 17 years at Dallas Theological Seminary, a non-denominational, evangelical school that trains men and women for ministry. I was ordained at a non-denominational church in Dallas and have worked with many different mission organizations. I am pretty familiar with the Protestant landscape and would be happy to talk. I would say I'm more of a Buddhist than anything else. I am a vegetarian and adhere to many of the general principles and beliefs of Buddhism (though there are many different beliefs and schools of thought within Buddhism). I read from many different spiritual disciplines and take what makes sense to me and leave the rest. I guess that makes me sort of a spiritual opportunist :-).

I was raised Methodist and was very active in my church growing up. I strayed from the church for many years and only in the last couple years have refocused. Opportunities at St. Norbert to discuss vocation and pray have helped to deepen my faith. My faith now is much deeper than it was growing up and yet it is also much less structured. My church is Peace United Methodist Church in Green Bay.
